Filing nut slots without files

They're a tad thicker than the Dunlop Super Brights that came off and as a result, they sit slightly more 'on' the nut slots than snugly 'in'. Question is, nut files are for cutting slots, not shaving off the sides. Any suggestions on what to use to expand the slot openings, especially on the E and B??

Produce round-bottom nut slots so your strings seat properly without buzzing!

As far as cutting a fresh nut, you need files. I use the $13 ones from StuMac. So yeah, thats nearly $80 even for the cheap ones. Before I bought the files, I used micro grit sand paper to widen slots, as I'd always put .11-52 on my guitars, and most nuts don't come that wide on stock electrics.
